Leitrim screening of Gasland June 11th

The latest Leitrim screening of Gasland, the US Academy Award nominated film takes place at The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon, Sat 11th June. The screening is being organised by Cinema North West and commences at 3.00pm (note: post-screening discussion commences 4.50pm).

The U.S. Producer of the film Trish Adlesic will address a post-screening discussion of the film, which deals with the environmental side-effects of Shale Gas Exploration, a phenomenon that now faces County Leitrim and adjacent counties.

With licenses granted to two companies - Lough Allen Natural Gas Company and the Australian-owned Tamboran Resources - to explore a large area of Leitrim spanning north from Lough Allen, the County now finds itself as part of a debate that is gathering momentum internationally.

The French Parliament have banned the only viable form of Shale Gas exploitation - known as Hydraulic Fracturing or "fracking"; all exploration has been halted as of last week in Lancashire, England, following earthquakes in the immediate vicinity of "fracking" activity. In addition, many U.S. States are now taking action on the basis of the damaging effects of "fracking" on human and animal health.

Gasland has been viewed by capacity audiences in Leitrim, including public representatives Michael Colreavy TD, Gerry Dolan CC, Sinéad Guckian CC, Enda McGloin CC, Martin Kenny CC, Frank Dolan Cathaoirleach CC, Seán MacSharry CC. Michael Colreavy has planned a screening of the film in the Dáil for fellow TDs.

Cinema North West are delighted to be screening Gasland as a matter of public interest to Leitrim audiences almost ten years to the day since our inaugural film show in Drumshanbo in 2001.

Please join us in Carrick, The Dock Arts Centre for this latest screening of Gasland.
